Sunseeker Yachts vs. Whitehaven Yachts New Ocean

Which is the best yacht for you?

When it comes to buying a yacht, there is a sea of options to choose from!

Purchasing a yacht is far from an impulsive decision; it’s an investment, and you want to make sure that your hard-earned money goes towards the perfect boat to suit your taste and lifestyle. With a variety of options in size, shape, speed, capacity, location, age, electronics, and more, the choice can be both exciting and overwhelming.

We have two outstanding motor yachts for sale: a Sunseeker 74 Manhattan and a New Ocean Yachts 74 (Now known as Whitehaven Yachts). Both are 2009 motor yachts, 74ft in length, listed around $1.9 million AUD, accommodate 10 in 5 spacious cabins, based in Airlie Beach, and are meticulously maintained. Both vessels embody excellence, offering you an opulent maritime experience.

Can’t decide between the two? We have compared the Sunseeker and Whitehaven New Ocean Yachts so that your decision-making process is smooth sailing. Now let’s delve into the details!

1. Performance

Speed: The Sunseeker Manhattan 74 boasts a significant advantage in both top speed and cruising speed with a max of 31knots and cruising speed of 26knots. While the New Ocean has a max speed of 18kts and cruising of 12kts.

Engines: The Sunseeker has MTU diesel engines with 2307 engine hours. The New Ocean has Twin Caterpillar diesel engines with 1950hrs, slightly less than the Sunseeker.

Fuel Capacity: The New Ocean 74 has a considerably larger fuel capacity (7500L), allowing for longer range cruising compared to the Sunseeker Predator 74 at 5,895L capacity.

For performance, if you’re looking to get somewhere quick, then the Sunseeker will do just that, but if you’re looking to cruise further, then the New Ocean is more ideal for those long range voyages.

2. Entertainment

These two boats both deliver on luxury entertainment, however, in their own unique way. Up on the flybridge and sundeck, the Sunseeker has a bimini top and is mostly all undercover for year-round relaxation.

What’s special about the Sunseeker is her standout feature, the large jacuzzi. The owner even said he sometimes filled it with ice and champagne bottles for a ‘WOW’ factor when guests arrived. It really does say LUXURY.

It also has the dual helm seated next to the flybridge and front sunlounge, so the captain can stay connected with the guests and enjoy all the fun.

However, if you like the choice of both air-conditioning or enjoying the sun and ocean air, then the New Ocean 74 provides the best of both worlds.

The New Ocean has both an air-conditioned luxury sky lounge with a wet bar and helm station, plus an open aft sundeck with an inviting L-shaped lounge for those stunning moments on the water.

Air-conditioned flybridge & bar, or a jacuzzi & sunlounge with clears? The choice is yours.

Heading onto the Main Deck, there’s huge space on both for entertaining many guests. The Sunseeker has a stunning unobstructed view, however the New Ocean lounge does have a larger wrap around lounge.

Although they both have an extended swim platform, what sets these two apart is the Sunseeker’s hydraulic system, which allows the platform to go up and down for easy tender docking or to cool off with your own little sea pool. It also has an umbrella bar setup to enjoy your drinks, quite literally, right on the water!

The New Ocean’s platform is well-designed for practicality, holding the centre console tender while still providing access to the transom and engine room.

On a further note, both boats deliver a Bose surround sound system and the Sunseeker, a new Fusion system. Although the New Ocean has some great entertaining qualities, we give the Sunseeker the win for this entertainment category. (The jacuzzi might have won us over there)

3. Electronics

Both boats present comprehensive electronics and large helm stations with great view access.

The Sunseeker does boast dual helm stations, one on the main deck level, which provides easy access from the galley & saloon, plus another smaller setup in the flybridge. The vessel’s navigation instruments underwent a $100k upgrade in 2021, resulting in state-of-the-art multi function displays, sounder, fwd scan sonar and radar. She includes dual-station power-assisted hydraulic steering, as well as a 2021 handheld yacht controller for easy docking.

The New Ocean Yachts 74 also does not disappoint, boasting Raymarine electronics and a user-friendly operation through the ZF remote control system which allows the owner or captain to effortlessly navigate the vessel single-handedly and park with ease. She goes above and beyond with hydraulic bow and stern thrusters, 14 CCTV cameras, intercom & Tv’s in every bedroom.

It’s hard to choose which has better electronics, as the Sunseeker has new modern upgrades; however they also didn’t spare any expense when fitting out this New Ocean Yacht.

4. Interior

The interiors on these two both display luxury in their own style. The Sunseeker delivers a modern and luxurious aesthetic with beige tones, white leathers & modern quality wood. She emphasises the contemporary luxury feel while providing the space for entertaining many guests. Her style is aesthetically pleasing, which makes the New Ocean a bit more unique.

The finishes and craftsmanship on the New Ocean are next to none. The galley, expertly designed by a chef, reflects a commitment to culinary excellence. The interior features luxurious high-gloss timber finishes and granite floors and benchtops. It exudes timeless luxury.

Don’t get us wrong though, the Sunseeker is truly a beautiful luxury boat for today’s modern sailors, seeking a yacht with light coloured interiors, however if you’re like us and appreciate the quality design and materials that have gone into this New Ocean then you have to admit she truly is a masterpiece inside!

5. Accommodation

The yachts both boast 5 cabins including a king Master Suite and crew quarters. Nearly identical in berthing, however, the crew quarters in the New Ocean is definitely a larger space for crew or more guests, with its own luxury ensuite.

Editor’s Picks

These two yachts are truly both stunning luxury yachts, and incredible value for money. Both have their own unique features and selling points, so it’s truly hard to say which is better, and even our own team is torn.

What we can help you decide on though, is if you’re after a fast modern yacht with a modern aesthetic and a jacuzzi to impress guests, then the Sunseeker is no doubt best for you!

If comfort, practicality, pure quality craftmanship and timeless luxury, along with longer trips, are on the top of your list, then the New Ocean is a perfect fit.
